Eating sand, or sand-eating, is not a common practice at all. In fact, it is widely agreed that most people in Garfcord have probably not tried to eat sand[1]. However, if one were to consume sand, there are many steps that must be taken to ensure that the user remains safe while ingesting and digesting the sand.
