Cattum Game PSP is a 2023 video game, currently being developed by Halls. It is a spin-off of the main Cattum Game Franchise, taking place after the events of the original Cattum Game.

In-game footage

As its name suggests it is made with the PlayStation Portable in mind however, according to Halls, the game will also work on PC and Android.

Genre

Cattum Game PSP can be classified as a Muslim role-playing science fiction cattumlike, similarly to Cattum Game. Various scholars have noticed that the game puts greater emphasis on the character of Cattum, thus making it even more true to the cattumlike genre than the original game or CatThem's Gayten. Some scholars have argued that Cattum Game PSP features much deeper political commentary[1] than the previous instalments of the franchise and attempted to classify the game as political fiction.

Gameplay

Cattum Game PSP is a story-driven game, featuring no actual combat. While this decision was made by Halls due to the limitations of running RPG Maker games on the PlayStation Portable, critics have praised this aspect of the game, likening it to games such as Disco Elysium. One reviewer has stated: "Cattum Game PSP is what Disco Elysium could have been if only Disco's developers could actually write a story".[2]

Graphics

Like previously released Cattum games, Cattum Game PSP has a retro pixel art style. The game reuses a lot of default assets provided by RPG Maker, as well as random tilesets downloaded from the internet.

Story (so far)

SPOILERS HERE

Cattum gets invited to the Zongus Space Station, seemingly to celebrate his victory over Iblis. Soon after arriving Cattum has a strange, highly realistic dream in which a demon called Abaddon swears vengeance on him for killing Iblis. Later, the true goal of Cattum's visit is revealed - it turns out that he was invited to solve the mystery of the Bad Syndrome - a mysterious disease that causes visual and auditory hallucinations as well as violent behaviour. The disease seemingly appeared out of nowhere among people who had no history of previous psychological issues.

When an unauthorized shuttle is suddenly launched towards the Googas Planet Cattum goes to investigate with the station's chief engineer Sebastian but this turns out to be a trap. Cattum encounters the Malicious Gas - an evil substance from a different dimension that causes the Bad Syndrome. More Malicious Gas attacks throughout the galaxy follow.

In hopes of finding the perpetrators, Cattum goes to the largest planet which hasn't been affected by the attacks, which happens to be Sogga II. On the planet he meets Callum Elbertson, a religious leader dubbed the Prophet who explains the history of Sogga II to Cattum. Cattum urges Elbertson to disable the planet's weather control systems used for terraforming, however Elbertson reveals that he has no control over the system and directs Cattum to the Walled City where the Weather Institute is located. After entering the Walled City and the Weather Institute, an unknown person reveals that the attack on Sogga II already begun and Cattum gets imprisoned.

After breaking out of the prison, Cattum again encounters Callum Elbertson, who reveals his evil plan. Elbertson is working with Abaddon and has produced evil clones of Cattum, one of which has replaced Cattum as the leader of the Creepercattum Party.

Cattum attemps to kill Elbertson but it turns out that the "Elbetrson" he met is merely a hologram.

Connection to other Cattum Games

Besides being a spin-off of the original Cattum Game, Cattum Game PSP is also the game that connects the main Cattum Gaming franchise to CatThem's Gayten, as the character of Callum Elbertson exists in both games.

Development

Cattum Game PSP is being made using the RPG Maker 2000 engine. It is the only version of RPG Maker that makes running games on the PSP possible, through the use of an old version of the EasyRPG Player. EasyRPG also makes Cattum Game PSP playable on platforms such as Android and Linux. Attempts to use it for other consoles such as the Nintendo Switch and the Wii have been made however with little success so far.
